Marriage and Family focus session

Pre-marriage and Post-marriage Relationship Education – Improving the Trend

As I am sure you are aware, one of the root causes of the many problems arising in families today, is the breakdown of relationship between couples, whether the relationship be a marriage or cohabitation. Many of the subsequent problems, which are estimated to cost the tax payer a massive 24 billion pounds per year, are said to stem from couple break up and also from the deterioration of the relationship, even if the couple stay together.

Experts in various countries have developed programmes such as PREPARE/ENRICH FOCCUS, and others, to prepare adults for this life changing relationship. Such programmes have been shown empirically, to reduce couple breakdown by 20-30% or more. However, only an estimated 8% of couples marrying in the UK, are believed to formally prepare for marriage.

In order to address the marketing question of how to increase that 8% number in the UK, to a more desirable figure over time (to come more into line with countries like Australia and the USA), the Global Peace Festival is holding a focus session on 22nd November with around 200 participants from the UK and other European nations, involving three speakers and followed by comments and suggestions from the floor.

We cordially invite you to join us at this focus session. Let us make a contribution to a peaceful society by promoting more stable families.

Mr. Nick Gulliford from FOCCUS UK, has kindly announced his readiness to give a short presentation. We are also finalizing arrangements with another eminent UK speaker and quite possibly another from Spain or France, to emphasise the European dimension. It is quite probable that one third of the participants will be European colleagues, including some senior national political figures and faith leaders.
